“You know you have the gift, right?”

I experienced my awakening when working for a wedding photographer. While at my first wedding in February 2013, we all knew beforehand that the mother of the bride was a world renowned psychic. Gathering up our stuff to leave at the end of the night, she approached us. She said, “Who knows Flo? Who here knows Florence?” 

I immediately burst into tears. My grandmother, my maternal figure and favorite person, had just passed less than a month prior.

The woman goes on to say, “She is here with you. And she wants you to know she is okay. She didn’t suffer. She is at peace.” 

At the end of her life, my grandmother had severe dementia. Months before her passing, she was able to meet Liam, my oldest son, but I always wondered if she understood who he was. This incredible woman was able to answer that question for me when she said, "Your grandmother wants you to know that she knew who Liam was. You are doing a wonderful job raising your son and she sees that. She is so proud of you.” 

Pausing for a moment, the woman just stared at me and said, “You know you have the gift, right?”

Excuse me, what?

She looked at me and said, “I want you to do a quick exercise with me. I’m picturing my best friend. I want you to explain to me what she looks like without overthinking... GO!" Without any hesitation I said, “Well, she is about my height, a little heavier set. She has brown hair and blue eyes with a smile that lights up the room." This woman - this beautiful light-worker - looks at me and smiled. “That’s my bestie," she said.

Honestly, in that moment I had no idea what had just happened. She reiterated, “You have the gift. You just need to cultivate it."

Staring blankly at her, I remember thinking how the hell am I supposed to do that?!
